Keep Your marbles, Your Game Plan for a Healthy Brain
|
Keep Your Marbles | Your Game Plan for a Healthy Brain is the latest book by Dr. John Kalb.
With 10,000 baby boomers turning 65 every day, more and more of us are becoming concerned about our brain health. Fortunately, the brain is the most adaptable organ in the body, but only if its owner makes the right choices. • Brain health is now an urgent concern for us all. We are living longer, which is great, but we are also facing an epidemic of Alzheimer’s disease and cognitive decline. The good news? We can do something about it. • We can keep our marbles. We are not helpless victims of brain aging. Cutting edge research shows we actually have considerable control over our brain health—if we know what to do. That’s exactly what you’ll learn in this book—what to do and how to do it—from exercise and nutrition to mental, emotional, and social self-care, and beyond. His new book, Keep Your Marbles | Your Game Plan for a Healthy Brain, is a result of over five years of research. This included reviewing over 3,000 bio-medical research papers with 400 of the top references included in the books. www.keepyourmarbleswithdrkalb.com |
Why Is Healthy Food So *&^*@! Expensive?
|
Sometimes it seems really tough to eat "right"--it costs a lot and even finding good nutritious food can be hard. In this talk, I'll suggest that this is a real problem, and it's one we can easily fix.
We have a food system that is built upside down and backwards: good food is expensive and unhealthy, processed food is cheap and readily available. There are lots of reasons for this (from chemicals to machines, from genetics to labor, from marketing to subsidies)...and there is no good reason that it continue, especially if we want a healthy community in the future.
The Farm at SOU is a center for sustainability. The student-led organic farm produces healthy, sustainably harvested food for the local community. It is a hub for education, student and faculty research and community outreach to the Rogue Valley. Projects on The Farm inspire a generation of ecologically committed leaders who promote a vision of living and working sustainably in community and on the land. https://farm.sou.edu/
